There are numerous health benefits to running and I would like to share some of them with you so you understand why running is so important to your health. One running benefit that you may not be aware of is the reduced risk of osteoporosis. The more you use your bones, the better condition they will stay in. Running will help limit your risk of osteoporosis by keeping your bones and joints active and healthy. You can start a running program at any age, so it's never too late to start improving your health. This is especially important for anyone who has a family history of osteoporosis or other risk factors.

The next health benefit that I want to mention is that running is going to give you the ability to build up your muscles. Your muscles are obviously being used on a constant basis while you are running, and it's an excellent workout since you have to adjust to surfaces that aren't even, as well as the experience of propelling yourself forward. This type of muscle use is going to allow the tissue to develop, grow and get much stronger. Having strong muscles will help you get around better as you age.

A health benefit I want to mention is that it will help you fight off any illnesses that might come along. Since exercising helps boost your respiratory system, as well as your cardiovascular system, this will give you the ability to fight off the common cold, plus any viruses or coughs you might experience.

Running 3-4 times per week can seriously improve your health. Start out running short, flat distances a couple of times a week. You can increase the length and frequency of the runs as you get stronger.
