Human bodies are complex systems that are made up of intricately intertwined organs and tissues. The study and medical care of the body is not something that can be undertaken in one field only. There are so many branches of medicine, with each arm dealing with a specific organ or tissue of the human body.
A podiatrist or in simple terms a foot doctor is a medical professional who devotes himself or herself to the study, treatment and care of complications of the feet, ankle and lower body extremities. An Austin foot doctor also works to prevent these diseases and conditions.

A hoof medical doctor is also referred to technically as a podiatrist. A podiatrist is a medical qualified professional who practices podiatry. Podiatry in general consists of two major arms. These arms can either be surgical care or non surgical care. Some foot care specialists are trained and licensed to carry out both branches of podiatry while in other countries fully qualified podiatrists have to seek further specialization to be licensed for surgical care.

Different areas of specialization are available for foot care doctors. These specializations usually require further studying for accreditation purposes. The specializations include; forensic podiatry which involves studying hoof patterns and prints in and around crime scenes; cosmetic and reconstructive surgery which is done for the purposes of correcting defects resulting from an accident or natural causes; sports medicine which deals with hoof care for sports persons; onco-podiatry which is the branch that deals with cancer affecting the feet and general podiatry. All these sub branches require certifications by the appropriate authorities.

A hoof care specialist handles a variety of hoof complications in a number of ways. Some of the complications best suited for podiatry treatment include bunions, feet rheumatism, feet skin diseases, diabetic feet issues, wound sand injuries and feet calluses.

The changing lifestyle habits of many people have led to an increased demand for quality care. Lifestyle changes have led to more people suffering from things like flat feet, feet rheumatism and diabetic feet. Environmental changes have also contributed to the increased occurrence of some of these conditions.

In many countries, an aspiring medical specialist has to go through several years of study before being certified and accredited as a podiatrist. Generally, the required study and practice consists of four years doing an undergraduate degree in podiatry, four more years of specialized podiatry study and lastly four or three years of residency. After this, one may apply for certification.

After completing the residency, this is not the end of learning. One may opt to specialize in a specific field of foot care such as onco-podiatry. This specialization requires more studying in an accredited institution. One may also be required to apply for membership in certain organizations and bodies related to hoof care and treatment.

It is quite obvious that a professional Austin foot doctor has a big and important role to play in the general wellness and health of the society. In particular, foot care goes a long way in ensuring that the whole human body is working normally. A complication in the feet has the capacity to affect the whole body.
