Botox Trends

By Ariel Mernal

Botox injections are nowadays popular as a 'quick fix' solution to younger looking skin. Botox injections have become commonplace in recent times for those who have facial wrinkles and lines, and would like to attain a more youthful appearance. Botox may have been considered to be a procedure that would come and go, however the skeptics now see that this is not true, it's going to be around for a while.

Celebrity gossip programs on TV talk about botox injections every day, speculating on which celebrities have had the procedure. There are those who are thinking about the popularity of botox, and wondering why it has gotten so widely accepted.

It's actually pretty easy to understand why. Ageing skin is a big problem, and people know that botox is inexpensive and effective. Unlike plastic surgery, there are no scars after the procedure, it's low-cost, and it takes only a few minutes to have done. More and more people have realized this now, thanks to all the publicity botox treatments receive through celebrity use.

What about Botox for Men?

Many people think that botox is only something that women are interested in, but this is not true. The truth is to the contrary. Women are still more likely to get botox than men, but it is becoming more widely accepted for men to receive the treatments as well. Media outlets have come up with a term for this, and 'bro-tox' seems to fit the bill. Some clinics now report that up to 50% of their patients undergoing botox are male!

Trends are changing

Botox is becoming more popular all the time. It is estimated that the number of men and women who underwent botox injection rose from 2010 to 2011 by around 5% - that's a rise from 5.4 million to 5.7 million people. Other statistics say that it's 10% that it has been going up, year by year. This is not a shock to anyone. The previously attached 'stigma' and social attitude to botox injections being the treatment reserved for the wealthy no longer exists, and neither does any sense of any shame of undergoing the procedure. It has now become a well recognized and widely accepted surgical procedure.

There is more than this though. Many other non-cosmetic disorders can be treated by botox injections, including muscle spasticity disorders and other chronic conditions. Children and adults who suffer from cerebral palsy have had botox help them, as well as those who have blepharospasm and also conditions such as spastic paraparesis. The benefits are looking good and the results are more than satisfactory. Migraines have been known to be reduced using scalp injections of botox, as well as excessive sweating and other issues.

It's plain to see that botox is only gaining in popularity. There are always new studies being done and improvements being made, and the benefits of these treatments seem to be growing in number all the time.
